Wire Transfer Services

When speed and certainty matter — closing on a home, paying a supplier overseas, sending funds to family — SCU wire transfers move your money with precision and security.

What You Should Know

Cut-off times, fee structures, required information, and fraud safeguards — all in one place.

Domestic Wire Transfers: Fast and Direct

A domestic wire moves funds from your SCU account to any U.S. bank or credit union, typically arriving the same business day when submitted before the 3:00 p.m. Central cut-off. You will need the recipient's name, bank name, ABA routing number, and account number.

Domestic wires serve as the go-to tool for time-sensitive transactions: real estate closings, vehicle purchases from private sellers, large vendor payments, or any situation where a personal check or ACH transfer would introduce unacceptable delay.

International Wire Transfers: Reaching Across Borders

International wires require a SWIFT/BIC code — an 8 or 11 character identifier that directs funds to the correct financial institution anywhere in the world. Most international wires settle within one to three business days, though intermediary bank routing can extend this depending on the destination country.

In addition to the recipient's name and account number, you may need the receiving bank's physical address and an IBAN for transfers to Europe and certain other regions. Our wire specialists can help you gather the correct information before you initiate a transfer, reducing the risk of delays or rejections.

Initiating a Wire Transfer

Log into online banking and navigate to the Wire Transfer section under Transfers, or visit a branch to complete a wire request form in person. For first-time wires to a new recipient, a verification callback is standard procedure — we will contact you at the phone number on file to confirm the details before releasing funds.

Business members with recurring wire needs can establish standing wire agreements that pre-authorize regular transfers to verified recipients, streamlining the process for routine payments.

For regulatory guidance on wire transfers and consumer protections, visit the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for information on Regulation E and electronic fund transfer rights.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I send a wire transfer through SCU?
Initiate a wire through online banking, the mobile app, or at any branch. Provide the recipient's name, bank name, routing number (domestic) or SWIFT/BIC code (international), their account number, and the transfer amount. Identity verification — including multi-factor authentication — is required for every wire. Call (218) 555-0147 if you need assistance gathering recipient information.
What are the fees for wire transfers?
Outgoing domestic wires cost $25 per transfer; outgoing international wires cost $45. Incoming wires — domestic or international — are free. Recurring domestic wires for pre-established recipients are $20 each. International priority wires with expedited routing are $65. All fees appear on your statement and are disclosed at initiation.
What is the cut-off time for same-day processing?
Domestic wires submitted before 3:00 p.m. Central are processed the same business day. International wires must be submitted by 2:00 p.m. Central for same-day initiation — settlement may take one to three days depending on the destination country. Wires received after these times are processed on the next business day.
What information do I give a sender so they can wire money to my SCU account?
Share SCU's routing number, your complete account number, and your name as it appears on your account statement. For international senders, also provide our correspondent bank's SWIFT code. Contact member services at (218) 555-0147 for the full set of incoming wire instructions tailored to the sender's country.
How does SCU protect against wire fraud?
Every outgoing wire undergoes multi-factor identity verification. First-time recipients and transfers above threshold amounts trigger a mandatory callback to the phone number on your account. Real-time wire alerts notify you the moment a wire is initiated. For additional protection, review the FFIEC's guidance at ffiec.gov.

Steinbach Credit Union is a federally insured, member-owned financial cooperative regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Your deposits are protected up to $250,000. SCU adheres to consumer protection standards established by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and follows financial institution security guidelines issued by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC).

What Our Members Say

After I retired from nursing, I helped my daughter with a down payment on her first house. I was nervous about wiring that much money, but the SCU team called me to verify every detail before processing. The funds arrived at the title company the same morning. That kind of diligence gives you peace of mind.
