Getting Started

Endorsement requirements, deposit limits, and photo tips for a smooth deposit every time.

Step-by-Step: Your First Mobile Deposit

Open the SCU mobile app and tap "Mobile Deposit" from the main menu. Choose the account where you want the funds to land — checking or savings. Enter the dollar amount exactly as it appears on the check, then the app prompts you to photograph the front and back. Both images are analyzed for clarity before you can submit.

Endorse the check on the back with your signature and the restrictive endorsement "For Mobile Deposit Only at SCU" written below. This simple step prevents the same check from being negotiated elsewhere. After submission, you receive an on-screen confirmation and an email with a reference number for your records.

Processing Windows and Availability

Deposits submitted before 4:00 p.m. Central on a business day are processed the same day. The first $225 of your deposit is typically available the next business day, with the remainder available within one to two business days. New accounts or unusually large deposits may be subject to extended hold periods under SCU's funds availability policy.

Weekend and holiday deposits are processed the next business day. The app displays an expected availability date before you confirm each deposit, so you know exactly when your money will be accessible.

Limits shown are standard. Higher limits may be available based on account history, relationship length, and average balance. Your specific limits appear in the mobile deposit section of the SCU app. Funds availability is subject to Regulation CC holds.

Photo Tips for Clean Deposit Images

Place the check on a dark, flat surface in good lighting — natural daylight works best, but any well-lit indoor area will do. Avoid casting a shadow across the check with your phone. Hold the phone directly above the check, parallel to the surface, and align the check within the on-screen guides. The app will alert you if the image is too blurry or poorly lit before you can submit.

After the deposit posts, keep the paper check secured for 14 days. Once you have verified the funds are available, mark the check "VOID" and shred it. Never attempt to deposit the same check via mobile and in person — doing so may result in a returned item fee and could trigger a fraud review.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does mobile check deposit work?
Open the SCU app and select Mobile Deposit, then pick the destination account and enter the check amount. Photograph the front and back of the endorsed check using the in-app camera guides. The system checks image quality, and once confirmed, submits your deposit. You will receive a confirmation number and an email receipt within moments.
What are the daily and monthly deposit limits?
Limits vary by account type. Basic Checking allows $2,500 per day and $10,000 per month. Advantage Checking permits $5,000 per day and $20,000 per month. Premium Checking, Money Market Savings, and Business Checking support $10,000 per day and $50,000 per month. Your exact limits appear inside the mobile app under Mobile Deposit.
How do I endorse a check for mobile deposit?
Sign the back of the check on the endorsement line as you normally would. Below your signature, write "For Mobile Deposit Only at SCU." This restrictive endorsement is required and ensures the check cannot be deposited or cashed through any other channel. Missing endorsements are the most common reason for deposit rejection.
How long should I keep the paper check after depositing?
Keep the paper check in a safe place for 14 days after the deposit posts to your account. Once you confirm the funds are fully available, write VOID across the front of the check and securely shred it. Do not attempt to redeposit or cash the same check — duplicate presentment triggers a returned-item fee.
Why was my mobile deposit rejected?
Common rejection reasons include blurry or poorly lit images, a mismatched dollar amount, missing or incomplete endorsements, duplicate deposit of the same check, or exceeding your daily or monthly limit. The app provides a specific rejection reason on screen. Correct the issue and resubmit — rejected deposits do not count against your limit.

What Our Members Say

As an insurance broker, I receive commission checks from a dozen different carriers every month. Before mobile deposit, I was at the branch twice a week. Now I endorse them at my desk between client calls and the money is in my account the next morning. The app even remembers my preferred deposit account so I do not have to select it every time.
